Sunset portrait photoshoot with Marta – Edinburgh, Scotland photographer

As a photographer it is my job to be constantly chasing the most amazing light. My favourite light is right after the sunrise or before the sunset. Soft and magical. And I’m also in love with backlit portraits.

I remember being given this advice from someone once – don’t shoot into the light – always have the sun over your shoulder. It seemed like a good piece of advice, but of course it wasn’t.

It turns out, shooting into the light can bring new life and energy into your photographs. I just needed to learn how to do it. This photography technique creates a striking backlight behind your subject and will also help to emphasise shapes and silhouettes, leading to more ‘fairytale’ or mysterious vibe.

      Backlit portraits – the magic

Bright backgrounds, soft light, lens flares, and beautiful bokeh is what I am looking for when photographing before the sunset. Check out my photoshoot with Marta.
