Danielle and Kyle fell in love with Edinburgh on a trip years before their wedding — and from that moment, they knew they wanted to come back and get married here. Originally from Illinois, they were drawn to the city’s gothic, atmospheric character and had their hearts set on an outdoor ceremony in Holyrood Park from the very beginning.
They chose a beautiful New Town flat as their Edinburgh base, and after Melanie from MHM Styling had worked her magic on Danielle’s hair and makeup, the natural light pouring through the windows was too good to waste — so we started the day with a first look and some portraits before heading out into the rain.
Holyrood Park is one of Edinburgh’s most popular spots, so for couples who want privacy and a feeling of genuine wilderness, I always suggest heading to Dunsapie Loch — a small, secluded loch tucked behind a rocky hill, away from the main paths. On a misty June afternoon like Danielle and Kyle’s, it feels completely otherworldly.
The views are properly Scottish — rolling hills, a brooding sky, and not another soul in sight. Humanist celebrant Ashton Easter led their ceremony beautifully, and the vows were everything. And yet afterwards, you’re only a 10-minute taxi ride from Victoria Street, the Old Town and the best restaurants in the city — one of Edinburgh’s pub owners handed them a free glass of fizz on Victoria Street to prove it. A perfect day.

Danielle and Kyle being offered a free glass of fizz on Victoria Street by one of the pub owners was such a perfect ending to their wedding photoshoot! They couldn’t believe how lovely and welcoming everyone in Edinburgh is. And it’s definitely one of the top reasons why I love living here so much.
