Addison & Jeff | Fairy Glen elopement on Isle of Skye

Addison and Jeff had already done the legal part – paperwork completed in Canada before they ever set foot in Scotland. What they wanted was something more personal: a spiritual ceremony in a place that felt genuinely magical, with someone who understood what that meant.

They chose Fairy Glen. And they chose Davina McCluskie to officiate.

Davina crafted something beautiful for them – an intimate, emotional ceremony that included a handfasting ritual and a quaich, two of the oldest Scottish wedding traditions. It was personal, unhurried, and completely theirs.

After the ceremony we had all of Fairy Glen to explore. It’s one of those locations that keeps revealing itself – every path, every mossy mound, every twisted rowan tree offers something new. No two elopements here ever look the same.

Why Fairy Glen works so well for an elopement

Fairy Glen is unlike anywhere else on Skye. While the Quiraing and Neist Point draw the crowds, Fairy Glen sits quietly off the main tourist trail – a small, enclosed valley of rolling green mounds, ancient rock formations and wandering sheep that feels more like a film set than a real place.

It’s particularly well suited to elopements because of its scale and accessibility. You don’t need to hike to reach it, the natural alcoves created by the hillside give you privacy even when other visitors are around, and the light – even on overcast days – is soft and atmospheric in a way that’s genuinely hard to replicate anywhere else.

Avoid midsummer if you can. July and August bring tourists, midges and inflated accommodation prices. Spring and autumn are when Fairy Glen is at its most magical – quieter, moodier, and far more likely to give you the place to yourselves. An early morning arrival almost guarantees privacy regardless of the season.

And ask your photographer about timing on the day. The difference between harsh midday light and the soft glow of early morning or late afternoon is significant – and on Skye, the weather shifts fast enough that patience is always rewarded.

Other Isle of Skye elopement locations worth considering

Fairy Glen is just one piece of what makes Skye so special for elopements. If you’re drawn to something more dramatic and expansive, the Quiraing offers vast, cinematic landscapes with natural privacy even in peak season. Neist Point is unbeatable for sunsets – dramatic cliffs dropping into the Atlantic with the lighthouse as a backdrop. The Old Man of Storr has an otherworldly, almost prehistoric quality. Sligachan sits at the foot of the Black Cuillin and has a wildness to it that feels genuinely remote. And Loch Coruisk, accessible only by boat, is for the truly adventurous.

Not sure which location is right for you? That’s exactly what I’m here for.

Every couple is different – your ceremony spot should reflect your personalities, your fitness level, the time of year, and the kind of photos you want to walk away with. Get in touch and we’ll figure it out together – and don’t forget to browse all of my eloping planning guides in the meantime.
