As a Scotland wedding photographer I have always dreamt of photographing a wedding in the Edinburgh Castle. Who doesn’t love a wedding at the most iconic Scottish castle, the residence of queens and kings?
That’s why I got super excited after receiving an email from Sierra and John whose secret proposal and engagement I photographed back in 2018. They told me about their plans to get married at Edinburgh Castle and booked me as their wedding photographer. As you can imagine I was over the moon!
Edinburgh Castle is one of the most beautiful venues in Scotland for saying ‘I do’.
Sierra and John were getting ready at the Witchery and after the preparations finished we all headed to the castle. The ceremony took place in Edinburgh’s oldest building – St Margaret’s Chapel. Emotional and intimate wedding ceremony was absolutely unforgettable for all of us, without a doubt.
Winter wedding at Edinburgh Castle
The inspiration for the whole style of their Edinburgh wedding was Game of Thrones and Lord of the Rings. Castles, owls, eagles and photographs in some really moody and atmospheric locations. All of those made Sierra and John’s elopement one of a kind, unique and different than any other Scottish elopement.
I have never published so many family and group photographed on my website before, but this time I simply couldn’t help it. I love the moody Scottish vibe in each of them so much. As you can see group photographs can also be a fun experience! And not necessarily a painful responsibility of each photographer. Especially posing with owls and eagles was something that doesn’t happen very often at weddings and adds to the magic of a Scottish wedding.
St Margaret’s Chapel wedding at Edinburgh Castle
Edinburgh’s oldest building, St Margaret’s Chapel, hosts intimate wedding ceremonies. It’s an amazing choice for couples who would love to elope in a Scottish castle and only be surrounded by the closest loved ones when saying ‘I do’. Its capacity is 30 people.
It was constructed in the 12th century and restored in the 19th.
I think Sierra and John made an amazing choice when it comes to their wedding venue, it was incredibly romantic and very much suited to their needs. Also, I’m sure that a lot of couples will now feel inspired by their wedding choices!
