Scottish European Room elopement wedding in Edinburgh Old Town

When Isabel and Stuart contacted me to capture their European Room elopement wedding in Edinburgh, I knew their day would be something truly special. Their October celebration, set in the heart of Edinburgh’s Old Town, blended vintage elegance, dark academia aesthetics, and a sprinkle of Harry Potter-inspired magic. It was the perfect start to my favorite month for photographing weddings in Scotland!

From their bespoke tweed outfits to the atmospheric charm of Edinburgh’s historic streets, every detail of Isabel and Stuart’s elopement reflected their shared love of moody, timeless beauty. Their story, including their exciting journey of building a farm and bothies in Speyside, is as inspiring as the day itself. European Room Elopement Wedding in Edinburgh: Isabel and Stuart’s Harry Potter-Inspired October Celebration

Isabel and Stuart’s elopement began in the beautiful and elegant European Room at Edinburgh’s City Chambers.

Nestled in the heart of Edinburgh’s Old Town, this venue perfectly suited their intimate celebration, with its classic decor and timeless atmosphere setting the stage for their vows. Surrounded by soft autumn light filtering through the historic windows, the couple exchanged deeply personal promises, creating a ceremony that felt both romantic and deeply personal.

Harry Potter inspired wedding photoshoot

After their European Room elopement ceremony, we ventured out to capture the essence of their Harry Potter-inspired day.

A highlight of our wanderings was the courtyard of Edinburgh’s New College, often referred to as the College of Divinity. With its towering Gothic architecture and storybook charm, the setting transported us into a world that felt straight out of Hogwarts – a fitting choice for Isabel, a proud Potterhead and lover of dark academia. As they strolled hand in hand, the mood was magical, echoing the themes of mystery and enchantment woven throughout their day. As Edinburgh wedding photographer I can never be happier than when my clients mention their love for Harry Potter aesthetics – as it deeply inspires my photography work and storytelling techniques.

Finally, Isabel and Stuart chose Cheval the Edinburgh Grand as their elopement accommodation. And it was a fantastic choice. They ended up staying in one of the top floor suites, with a view at the Balmoral clock and Arthur’s Seat. Furthermore, the interiors were very stylish. The hotel suites are decorated in a tasteful, art deco style.

Eloping gives you the freedom to design a wedding day that truly reflects who you are as a couple. That’s why I’m passionate about working with couples who embrace the opportunity to create something unique and non-traditional. Want to skip the white wedding gown? Go for it. Prefer an intimate day with just the two of you? It’s your day—make it as private and personal as you like!
