Intimate Summer Outdoor Wedding in Edinburgh’s Holyrood Park

Jessie and Phil, an adventurous and easygoing couple, reached out to me with a vision for a relaxed outdoor wedding in the heart of this stunning city. They wanted an intimate celebration surrounded by their closest family members, and Holyrood Park provided the perfect backdrop for their special day.

The ceremony: a heartfelt humanist celebration

Jessie and Phil chose a short yet meaningful humanist ceremony, reflecting their values and love for simplicity. The ceremony was led by the wonderful Annalese McDermott and included a traditional handfasting ritual—a beautiful symbol of their union. The setting in Holyrood Park, with the rolling hills and breathtaking views of Edinburgh’s skyline, added a touch of magic to every moment.

Capturing the memories before the ceremony

The couple’s thoughtful planning allowed us to complete most of their wedding photoshoot before the ceremony. This gave them more time to celebrate with their guests afterwards, a decision that perfectly aligned with their relaxed approach to the day.

We began the photoshoot in the Old Town – as Jessie really loved the idea of wedding photos at Calton Hill and Old Town, including the Vennel Steps with castle view, St Giles Cathedral and Writer’s Museum.

An epic finish at the Chapel ruins

After a warm and joyful ceremony, Jessie and Phil spent the afternoon mingling with their loved ones. Before heading to their dinner reservation, the couple wanted to add a few final photos to their wedding day. We hiked across Holyrood Park to the historic chapel ruins – a hidden gem with panoramic view at Edinburgh skyline.

The ruins provided a dramatic and unique backdrop for their last wedding portraits. With the golden summer sun dipping lower in the sky, Jessie and Phil’s photos radiated warmth, intimacy, and a touch of adventure – a perfect reflection of their wedding day.

Why Holyrood Park is a perfect wedding location

Jessie and Phil’s wedding is a testament to the versatility and charm of Holyrood Park as a wedding location. Whether you’re envisioning an intimate ceremony or a larger celebration, the park offers endless opportunities for stunning photography and meaningful moments. Its proximity to Edinburgh’s city center makes it convenient for guests, while its natural beauty transports you to a serene escape.
