Katie & Devin – St Anthony’s Chapel elopement in Edinburgh

A couple of months back I was contacted by Cheryl, Katie’s mom – on behalf of Katie and Devin about their plans to elope in Scotland.

Cheryl told me all about their plans to have an outdoor Scottish elopement surrounded by Edinburgh’s epic scenery.

So, since their entire family have a special love for Scotland, after completing the formal marriage paperwork in the US where they are from – Katie and Devin they travelled to tie the knot in Edinburgh, together with Katie’s parents.

From the beginning of our conversation via email, Cheryl mentioned I was their first choice as their Edinburgh wedding photographer. So of course, I was absolutely delighted! They want to say their vows to each other, hopefully a bagpiper will play and then some magnificent photos of them will be taken. We saw your photos online and felt you captured the essence of what Katie wants for their elopement in Edinburgh. Your photos are beautiful. 

Arthur’s Seat outdoor elopement at St Anthony’s Chapel

After their travel all the way from Ohio, Katie and Devin exchanged their personal vows on a warm September evening. Their ceremony at the ruins of St Anthony’s Chapel overlooking St Margaret’s Loch was beautiful in every way.

So it was a truly unforgettable day with ever-changing weather – including sunshine, three rainbows, and then lots of rain. However, the weather forecast the day before had mentioned thunderstorms which we thankfully avoided! Meanwhile, Katie and Devin were enjoying these precious moments and embraced whatever the day brought them. In conclusion, with a laid-back approach to Scottish weather your day can only end up being more enjoyable and adventurous. Which is why outdoor weddings are best for couples with a relaxed approach and no expectations!

After their beautiful, intimate ceremony in Holyrood Park, we walked around Royal Mile and Holyrood Park to capture some more wedding photos of this beautiful couple in their wedding attire.

I think that Katie and Devin’s outdoor elopement in Edinburgh proves that you really don’t have to travel all the way to the Scottish highlands if you want to marry among some epic scenery.
