Danielle got in touch with me in the winter of 2021 telling me about how her and her fiance traveled to Edinburgh a few years back, which made them want to get married there. Originally from the US state of Illinois, they really fell in love with the gothic, dark beauty that city has to offer. At the time they were just starting their wedding planning, but already knew that they would love to have their outdoor wedding ceremony in Holyrood Park.
The couple chose a stunning AirBnB flat in Edinburgh’s New Town as their accommodation. And it was perfect – stunning, tasteful decor and lots of natural light coming through big windows. I simply had to use this gorgeous space for their first look moment and some couple portraits before the ceremony!
Danielle and Kyle like the idea of choosing a more private and secluded spot for their outdoor wedding ceremony in Edinburgh.
As Holyrood Park can get quite busy in the summer, I advised them to consider a less popular location within the park for their vow exchange. We made the decision to hold their micro-wedding at Dunsapie Loch – a small loch surrounded by a rocky hill. So the scenery couldn’t have been more beautiful, especially on such misty and rainy June afternoon. Without a doubt, the scenery was truly Scottish. And I couldn’t be happier with Danielle and Kyle’s relaxed approach to their wedding day. As no matter the weather, the wanted their ceremony to be held outdoors. Which means that their day ended up being a real adventure. With lots of rain, emotional vows and delicious wedding cake to wrap the day up.

It’s located off the beaten path, therefore its location guarantees more privacy compared to other popular locations. Moreover, the views are scenic and truly Scottish. Who wouldn’t want rolling green hills in their wedding photos, right?
What is more, having your wedding ceremony at Dunsapie Loch will give you a feeling of being in the wilderness of the Scottish highlands. And it’s a fantastic way to combine the want to be in the nature, while having all the perks of a city elopement on your doorstep. You’re only a 10-minute Uber or taxi away from the best restaurants, pubs and city attractions after all!
To sum up, Dunsapie Loch in Edinburgh is a truly perfect place for an outdoor micro-wedding or an elopement.
Danielle and Kyle being offered a free glass of fizz on Victoria Street by one of the pub owners was such a perfect ending to their wedding photoshoot! They couldn’t believe how lovely and welcoming everyone in Edinburgh is. And it’s definitely one of the top reasons why I love living here so much.
