Hannah and Dave had been planning their big day for more than 2 years before they decided they could no longer wait and decided to have 2 separate celebration days instead – scroll down to find out more about how the first of them went!
After three postponements, Hannah and Dave split their celebration in two: a private townhouse-garden ceremony with just an officiant and witnesses, followed by portraits through Dean Village, Circus Lane and all around Stockbridge. Intimate, budget-friendly and totally them.
In case of Hannah and Dave’s ceremony, I was unfortunately unable to photograph their romantic private garden affair. The restrictions in place would only allow for 5 people to attend the wedding ceremony. And in this case that included the bride and groom, 2 witnesses and the officiant.
Thankfully we were still allowed to meet right after them saying I do and wander around Edinburgh to create the most amazing photos for this gorgeous couple. The most important thing was to avoid rain and harsh sunlight which we were lucky to have escaped.
Hannah’s stunning wedding dress is from Bliss Studio Salon in Edinburgh which is a wonderful place to look for the most gorgeous gown in Scotland!
In the morning Hannah stepped onto a lawn dusted with cherry petals; Dave waited in an elegant kilt beneath the blossoms. Ten minutes of vows, two happy tears and one champagne pop later – they’re married! Afterwards, it was all about New Town wedding photos.
As a photographer I have a list of my favourite photography locations in Edinburgh – of course.
I was happy when Hannah and Dave decided to have their photos taken in some of my favourite spots in Edinburgh, including Dean Village and Circus Lane.
These 2 places, being located in Edinburgh’s New Town, are much less popular than Edinburgh’s Old town or Holyrood Park, but they are just as lovely. Having your wedding photos taken in these locations allows you to escape the most popular, touristy places in Edinburgh.
At Dean Village sandstone tenements reflected soft April light on the Water of Leith and Circus Lane was pefect as Edinburgh’s most Instagram-loved mews: wisteria, fairy-lit windows and St Stephen’s spire.

Small city weddings have an incredible charm. Especially if you’re getting married in a place as magical as Edinburgh. Full of picturesque alleys, almost every street corner makes up for a great photo opportunity.
In New Town most gorgeous places are within walkable distance from each other. Secondly, whether you’re more of a city person or prefer to enjoy the outdoors – you can combine both in your wedding photos. And finally, no other city is more romantic than the Scottish capital!
