Outlander-inspired Elopement in the Misty Scottish Highlands

Step into the realm of timeless romance with a tale of an Outlander-inspired elopement in the heart of the Scottish Highlands.

As a Scotland wedding photographer, I had the privilege of capturing the love story of a Czech-American couple who chose to exchange vows on a rainy September day, echoing the mystique of Glencoe. Join me as we unravel the joyful details of a day that blended elements of Outlander with the breathtaking landscapes of Scotland.

In true Outlander spirit, the couple chose an intimate gathering, with only their parents as witnesses to their love. The close-knit group added to the emotional depth of the ceremony, creating an atmosphere of warmth and support amid the Scottish rain.

Scroll down to explore Outlander-inspired details and discover how to channel the spirit of Jamie and Claire for an unforgettable, wild, and romantic elopement experience in Scotland.

Rainy outdoor elopement in the heart of the Highlands

With the rain starting from gentle, to steady and heavy, Radka and Chris’s just-married happiness was shining through it consistently and without stopping. One of the most important parts of an outdoor elopement in Scotland is the right attitude – we’ll have an amazing time, no matter the weather!

The rain, relentless as it was, served as a poetic metaphor for life’s challenges – a backdrop against which the couple declared their commitment to weathering every storm together.

And against the backdrop of the Scottish rain, the bride embraced a touch of Outlander drama by choosing a stunning, untraditional dark green dress for the ceremony. The extraordinary dress, a nod to the lush Scottish landscapes, added a unique and ethereal quality to the day, standing out against the misty surroundings.

If that’s not reminiscent of the dramatic Scottish landscapes and old Celtic style, I truly don’t know what is!

The relentless rain added a poetic touch, allowing me to create photographs which mirrored the resilience and passion of Chris and Radka’s love.

Capturing Outlander-inspired moments

For many couples who were inspired by the show Outlander, the main question is – how do we create Outlander-inspired images and adventure?

To infuse Outlander elements into your elopement, consider incorporating traditional Scottish details, such as tartan accents or ancient stones or ruins into your ceremony backdrop.

To channel the spirit of Jamie and Claire, choose locations that reflect the untamed beauty of the Scottish wilderness. Pose against the backdrop of rolling hills, ancient ruins, and misty lochs to capture the essence of your day. And consider handfasting – a symbol of your eternal bond. handfasting ceremony into your vows. Handfasting, as seen in Jamie and Claire’s marriage in season one, symbolizes the binding of two lives. Drawing inspiration from Roger and Brianna’s ceremony in the show, use meaningful fabric to weave your unique story into the union.

And of course embrace the rugged beauty of the Highlands, together with all its elements – rain or shine – and let it become a part of your unique adventure. To put it simply, let the unpredictable weather become an integral part of it!
