Justyna and Pawel met at the university in Wroclaw, when Justyna moved there from Krakow, after her dad died, to be closer to her mum and be able to work. During the first months at the uni Justyna couldn’t remember Pawel. Everything was new to her, she didn’t know anyone in the city. She noticed him the first time when he was looking for blood donors for his dad who was already sick at the time, what made her decide to donate blood She had her first conversation with him only a few weeks after. They became friends, started spending more time together, doing uni projects together. Pawel invited her to his friend’s wedding once, but Justyna’s plans changed immediately as she was offered a job in Scotland and decided to move abroad. Pawel was worried that she wouldn’t come back, that he wouldn’t see her again. But after a year she decided to come back to Wroclaw and finish her studies – and they started to spend time together again and became really great friends. Months were passing, and one day Pawel called her and said he was going to visit her. Justyna panicked as it was completely unexpected and asked him to come on the next day. When he arrived, her natural Polish hospitality made her offer him: tea, cake, but… as they stood in the kitchen, he held her hand and told her he loved her. How did she react? She gave him a lecture that ‘I love you’ is a big thing, that they hadn’t known each other enough. She was scared to lose him as a friend, to hurt him. And she always thought they were completely different – like fire and ice. But she was so wrong. Justyna is an incredibly strong woman, but it didn’t scare Pawel away. He’s great at calming her down when she’s panicking, brave and so kind. She continues to be impressed with how brave he is. He was never scared of changing his job, moving to Scotland for her, every time she worries he always tells her ‘don’t worry baby, together we can do anything, fight any obstacle’. ‘I remember that one day when I got up and it occurred to me – I love him so so much’.
‘I fell in love with him, his kindness and bravery and I decided to be his wife because I don’t know anyone who had a bigger heart than him. People can always count on his help. I love the way I feel taken care of when he’s around, he takes care of me and us. We share a similar outlook on life, and he’s very family-minded which she loved about him too. He’s an amazing uncle to my sister’s little son.’
What about their engagement? When Justyna and Pawel were still friends, she told him a lot about her dad, how amazing he was – as a father and a husband. She told him how when her parents were young, her dad used to give her mum piggyback rides to her home and how great it would be to have a husband like this one day. And before Pawel asked her to marry him, he gave her a one-kilometre piggyback ride. She was so touched that he remembered.
Adventure wedding photoshoot in the Scottish mountains
Now a word from the photographer – Justyna and Pawel are one of the most amazing people I know. When I photographer their engagement in the Royal Botanic Gardens in Edinburgh last year, we only spent 2 hours together and immediately became friends. Sometimes you meet someone and you know that you will stay in each others’ lives, and that’s exactly what happened. We stayed in touch when I moved back to Poland for a while and we were always interested what was happening in each other lives. I was then invited to their wedding in Wroclaw last September and it was incredible, I loved being part of their big day. When we all came back to Scotland we drove to the highlands so I can photograph the beautiful couple in the Scottish scenery. It was such a great adventure!
