Daphne and Sophie contacted me a couple of months before when looking for a Scotland engagement photographer. I was over the moon that they booked me and I loved planning their engagement photos locations around the Scottish capital!
LGBTQ engagement photos in Scotland
We had a perfectly moody day for photos – my absolute favourite weather for engagement, portrait or wedding photos in Scotland.
It’s the type of weather that subtly underlines the old, rough and atmospheric beauty of Scotland. One of the best things about working with Sophie and Daphne during their engagement shoot was how easy to talk to they were and how naturally they interacted with each other. My posing guidance was not even needed!
Story of the relationship | Edinburgh same-sex engagement session
How did you meet?
We met on the Internet. Sophie was looking to perfect her English and Daphne was writing online. While looking for things to read, Sophie found Daphne’s writings and couldn’t stop reading! After hours of reading she knew she had to at least thank Daphne and then they started talking. Sophie fell for Daphne’s words and her mind first.
We officially met in the summer of 2014 in Regent Park, London.
Why did you choose Scotland to get engaged?
We first traveled to Edinburgh in 2016 and fell head over heels for the city. Especially the Scottish highlands when we visited Glencoe on a day trip. Then, we came back two years later for Sophie’s birthday as we missed Scotland a lot. It became our favourite city and we couldn’t think of a better place to get engaged. We got engaged at the top of Calton Hill in May this year, a couple of days before our engagement photoshoot!
Why do you want to get married in Scotland?
As we are from the Netherlands and France we wanted to share the love that we have for Edinburgh with our close ones. Most of our families haven’t been here before. We got engaged in the city and it also felt right to choose to get married in Edinburgh. And to be honest we just fell in love with our venue which happens to be in the city! (weddings at the Royal College of Physicians is one of the most beautiful Edinburgh wedding venues!)
What do you love about each other?
Sophie: I love Daphne’s mind. She is is curious and loves to learn. She has a deep passion for history and I love to listen to her when she starts explaining facts nobody else knows! I love that she is down to earth in her approach to life. And always has the best ideas for wild adventures. She is funny and kind and has the cutest beauty mark on her nose!
What do you think should be the foundation of a relationship?
Mutual respect, communication, having fun, shared values , not taking yourself too seriously.
How do you like to spend time together?
We sometimes enjoy doing nothing together. Daphne’s love language is spending time with her friends and family and we will spend hours doing something separately but together. We love our Friday night movie date where we’ll start with a meal in Soho before heading to the 8pm showing. We like museums, wandering around, going for walks and finding cute pubs and vintage shops. When permitted we like to travel and we are really looking forward doing this for our honeymoon.
Engagement and wedding photography services in Scotland
After Sophie and Daphne received the gallery with their engagement photos, they asked whether I would be available to photograph their wedding in Edinburgh next year. I was super happy to say that the date was still free in my calendar.
Soon after they booked me as their Edinburgh wedding photographer. They are getting married next spring in the Royal College of Physicians and I couldn’t be more excited to be their wedding photographer!
