Some people dream of grand ballrooms and big city weddings. Lisa and Tom? They dreamt of mountains, misty air, and that wild, windswept feeling only the Scottish Highlands can give you. Very soon after starting their wedding research, they settled on Kingshouse Hotel as their venue.
These two Londoners had their hearts set on an adventurous elopement – just the two of them, somewhere dramatic and beautiful – but they also knew they couldn’t quite tie the knot without their nearest and dearest. So they found the perfect middle ground: a cosy winter wedding at the Kingshouse Hotel in Glencoe, complete with a secret first look, mountain views, and just the right amount of celebration.
With a Celtic-traditions including ceremony led by the humanist Alyson Stewart and Lisa’s stunning make-up by Carys Davies, the day was filled with laughs and despite the cold and rain the stunning bride didn’t even have to worry about her impeccable hair and make-up.
The day started quietly, with Lisa and Tom sharing a private first look outside the hotel, no guests, no distractions – just them, the mountains, and maybe a curious stag or two. As Scotland wedding photographer I find capturing these moments truly delightful – the real, quiet moments of connection between two people choosing to share a life together.
After soaking up the moment (and grabbing a few jaw-dropping photos), they rejoined the world for their midday ceremony surrounded by family and friends. It was romantic, relaxed, and oh-so-Highlands.
Tucked away in the heart of Glencoe, Kingshouse Hotel is the sort of place that makes your jaw drop as you pull up the drive. Think panoramic views, cosy interiors, and wild deer wandering past the windows like they own the place (because, well, they sort of do).
Despite feeling a million miles from anywhere, it’s surprisingly easy to get to – not too far from Glasgow or Edinburgh – making it ideal for couples who want that remote, adventurous vibe without asking guests to hike for miles in their wedding gear.
The hotel offers exclusive-use winter wedding packages from October to March, so you get all the dramatic beauty of the Highlands without the summer crowds – and trust us, Glencoe in winter is next level magical.
Whether you’re going big or keeping things beautifully small, Kingshouse has two fab packages to choose from – so let’s look into them.
Ideal for bigger celebrations (40 to 100 guests), this one includes everything you’d expect from a proper wedding do: a delicious four-course meal, welcome drinks, toasts, wine, exclusive use of their panoramic restaurant, and even a swish honeymoon suite for the happy couple. It’s all very “Highlands meets luxury with a touch of gin.”
Available Thursday to Sunday from October to March, with a per-person price and venue hire fee. If you’re planning something smaller, you’ll need to book within 12 months of the date.
Perfect for elopements or smaller gatherings (15 to 39 guests), this option is full of rustic charm and relaxed vibes. Think exposed beams, flagstone floors, and a room full of people you actually want to spend time with. Includes a cracking meal, drinks, exclusive use of the pub, and a warm, intimate atmosphere that feels like a highlands hug.
Available Sunday to Thursday from October to March. Also priced per guest with a separate venue hire, and bookings are taken up to a year in advance.
Lisa and Tom’s wedding was the kind of day that makes you believe that running away to the mountains is the best way to marry – even if you bring a few loved ones with you.
It was personal, emotional, and set against one of the most beautiful backdrops in the UK.
So, if you’re dreaming of a wedding that feels like an adventure with a splash of romance and a good highland G&T, Kingshouse Hotel might just be your spot. Throw in some epic views, a wild deer or two, and the kind of hospitality that makes you feel right at home, and you’ve got yourself a wedding to remember. As a wedding photographer in Scotland, I find this venue to be an incredibly convenient choice – especially since very few venues in the Scottish highlands are able to accommodate a larger number of guests.
