Winter Scottish highlands wedding photoshoot

After getting married in New Zealand Madison and David went on the biggest adventure of their lives together. It was trip to more than 10 countries around the world. They visited the Netherlands, France, United States, Italy, Hungary, Czech Republic, England… and of course Scotland. And they hired a wedding photographer to capture their honeymoon adventured in every country they have visited. Isn’t that the most amazing idea ever?

The most magical honeymoon anyone could ever hope for! They are originally from Australia, love spontaneous trips and meeting new people. It was one of those times when clients really did become real friends. And I couldn’t be more grateful for that.

We all started our two-day trip in Edinburgh and drove towards the Scottish highlands together. We stopped at a few lochs on our way, then some little food and drink breaks. Our first photo shoot stop was Kilchurn Castle at Loch Awe. You can see the results of Madi and Davie’s Kilchurn Castle elopement photo shoot under this link.

Our second stop on the day was near Castle Stalker whose name comes from Gaelic word Stalcaire which means hunter or falconer. It’s famous for its appearance in the final scene of Monty Python and the Holy Grail movie from 1975.

Even though I caught a bit of a flu the day before our trip I enjoyed it more than ever. We saw the deer, captured some wonderful landscapes together and the light was more than perfect for a photographer to ask for.

Scotland elopement – Scottish highlands wedding photographer

If you’re planning to elope to Scotland and trying to find the most perfect time to do it ….every single season of the year will be a perfect time. Two of the photographs below were one of my favourite that I took on that trip. Can you believe they were taken in the middle of December?

I love the colours of the Scottish highlands in the winter. Shades of brown, orange and the snow on top of the mountains make up for the most incredible, photogenic landscapes. Plus, Scotland is full of empty, film-like looking roads. It’s the dream.

Anyway, I couldn’t believe that Madi and Davie were such troopers. The temperature was below zero and here they were, looking cute as hell and posing like pros!

I really enjoyed photographing my new friends in Glen Etive. It’s a place super close to my heart especially as a massive Harry Potter fan. Glen Etive appeared in numerous scenes in the Deathly Hallows movie. It is also a location of the famous James Bond scene in Skyfall with Daniel Craig.
