Sunsets like the one you can see in the photos below don’t happen very often in Scotland.
As a Scotland portrait photographer, when they do happen, I like to make the most of them. And the last day of May this year was a perfect opportunity for a sunset photoshoot in Edinburgh.
Me and my wonderful model Sarah met at the entrance to the Scottish Parliament and started our hike from Holyrood Park. Then, we arrived close to the summit, and decided to wait for the light to get soft and golden. In the meantime we were chatting and enjoying the sun.
Scotland sunset portrait photoshoot at Arthur’s Seat
Right next to couple, wedding and engagement photography portrait photoshoots are my favourite. Especially when I get to work with a super talented model and in the most perfect light. It’s always such a great privilege!
Not only it was great to hang out with Sarah on that Monday evening, but we also got to create some epic images together.
Hiking to the top of the volcano, called Arthur’s Seat, is not a difficult task unless you are still in the pandemic shape (just as I was!). So remember to always allow enough time to start our hike to be ready when the perfect like appears above the hills of Edinburgh.
Holyrood Park is a stunning location even in cloudy weather though. And if you’re not a fan of hiking or are considering wedding photos taken there, you don’t need to hike all the way up. Higher levels of the park offer magnificent views. But the views are also stunning at the foot of the volcano.
Please note though that the ascent of the ancient volcano is very steep and rocky and requires great care, especially on rainy days. Hence it is important to always have appropriate footwear and clothes. Especially on winter days.
Depending on where you stand within the Edinburgh’s Holyrood Park the photos you take can be completely different. What is astonishing is that Arthur’s Seat looks like a completely different place depending of the season of the year.
Nevertheless, it’s always a magical location for any type of photoshoot.
Arthur’s Seat – Edinburgh portrait, engagement and wedding photographer
To sum up, I cannot imagine a more perfect place in Edinburgh for a portrait photoshoot, engagement session, secret wedding proposal or wedding photoshoot.
If you are looking for an Edinburgh photographer to capture memories for you in a stunning scenery, you should consider Arthur’s Seat and Holyrood Park as a photoshoot location.
And if we are lucky enough to be shooting in the sunset, it will be an unforgettable experience!
