Rachel and Ewan swapped the big-venue blueprint for something pocket-sized: a relaxed spring ceremony at Alexander Suite, followed by an unhurried wander through their favourite Old-Town haunts. They left Dundee that morning with two witnesses, a single bouquet, and zero worries about chair covers or seating charts—just the promise of oak-panelled vows, rain-washed cobbles and café stops whenever the mood struck. What followed was part love story, part city stroll, and one very photogenic reminder that tiny plans often leave the most room for meaningful moments.

A Dundee Duo Choosing Edinburgh

Rachel and Ewan grew up an hour north but always felt the capital’s pull – cobbles, coffee shops, that skyline at dusk. When they decided on a tiny ceremony, City Chambers offered oak panels, an easy licence and postcard backdrops seconds from the front door.

Registrar-Room Vows

They decided the Scottish capital would be the most perfect place to say ‘I do’. And they made the decision to get married at Edinburgh City Chambers on Royal Mile accompanied by two witnesses only.

The venue is located in the heart of Edinburgh’s historic Old Town which provide pretty epic, historic backdrops for wedding photos – the moment you step out of the Alexander Suite you will find yourself in the enchanting surroundings of medieval architecture.

After Rachael and Ewan’s Edinburgh city ceremony, we decided to wander around Old Town and take photos in the most beautiful spots around the Scottish capital. So we wandered around Royal Mile, the Writer’s Museum, the Grassmarket and the Vennel. Thereafter, we called and Uber and headed off to Dean Village.

Dean Village photoshoot

Dean Village is a truly enchanting place. It looks like a village from the previous century and provides the most magical backdrop for elopement photos in Edinburgh. I have taken engagement and wedding photos in Dean Village tens of times and I could truly never get tired of it.

So myself and the newlyweds spent an hour wandering around Dean Village itself and St. Bernard’s Well, admiring the beautiful landscapes of the area.

All the clients I took to Dean Village for either couple, engagement or wedding photos absolutely loved it!

Quick and relaxed Alexander Suite ceremonies in Edinburgh

Quick and relaxed, Alexander Suite ceremonies tick every Old-Town box: a ten-minute vow exchange beneath soaring plasterwork, easy paperwork handled on-site, and postcard backdrops waiting just outside the door.

If you’re after maximum atmosphere with minimal fuss, the Alexander Suite delivers it – sign, celebrate and step straight onto the Royal Mile, rings still warm and smiles still wide. And for more insight into best venues in the city, dive into my wedding and elopement planning guides.
