Isle of Skye vow renewal in Scotland

As a Scotland elopement photographer I’m always happy when I get photography enquiries from people wanting to be photographed on Isle of Skye!

Isle of Skye in Scotland is one of the most beautiful places in the world. So no wonder so many of my clients are planning to have their engagement, elopement or wedding photos taken there!

Rebecca and Tim, who initially enquired about a family photoshoot in Edinburgh, after 2 Covid-related postponements, decided to renew their vows in the magical Fairy Glen on Isle of Skye. Natalie, their daughter, kept them company throughout the entire photoshoot in Fairy Glen. She took some behind-the-scenes photographs, recorded the ceremony and helped me frame some of the best shots I took!

Emotional Fairy Glen vow renewal on Isle of Skye

We initially planned their vow renewal photoshoot in Scotland on the exact date of their 20th anniversary. Unfortunately, we had to postpone the ceremony to autumn due to various travel restrictions between the US and the UK. In the end though we decided to go ahead and start planning for an October date!

October in Scotland, especially in the north of Scotland, it’s one of the rainiest months in the year. Nevertheless, it didn’t stop us from feeling incredibly excited about their vow renewal photoshoot! Rebecca and Tim embraced the rain fully. Also, there was a lot of magic that rain added to the photographs I created for them. So it added to the moodiness of the scenery which was incredibly atmospheric, and contributed to the richness of colours around us.

My advice for couples eloping in Scotland’s Fairy Glen in autumn would be to go for an early morning ceremony. The sun rises around 8am in October and there is a higher chance you will be the first people there! That brings you a sense of privacy and to be able to explore the area when no one’s around. And it’s a truly wonderful experience to be able to explore such place on your own.

As Isle of Skye elopement photographer I always remind my clients that they need to be prepared for any weather conditions on their day. As the weather in Scotland is very unpredictable, you need to bring the adventurous side of your personality to your Isle of Skye elopement or vow renewal!

Wedding ceremony at Fairy Glen in Isle of Skye

I truly believe that Fairy Glen is a perfect location for an elopement on Isle of Skye. It’s a magical place whose landscape was formed by glacier movements. Which is why the rolling hills of Fairy Glen guarantee fantastic backdrops for photographs. Many people struggle to believe that the natural rock and hill formations of Fairy Glen area were formed in a natural way and weren’t in fact man-made.

It’s a perfect elopement location for couples who would rather avoid a crazy hike prior to their wedding ceremony.

The hills of Fairy Glen aren’t very high and the whole area is easy to walk around and access. And although the place itself isn’t very broad but boasts incredible views from every perspective.

Lastly, Fairy Glen is located only a 15-minute drive from Quiraing, which is another incredibly beautiful place in Isle of Skye. Also, another stunning place for photos! When getting married at Fairy Glen you should definitely take a short drive to Quiraing to create some more epic photos with your elopement photographer.

I might be biased but I truly believe that there is no better place on this planet to renew your vows than in the scenery of Scottish highlands.

During Rebecca and Tim’s Isle of Skye vow renewal it was raining constantly. And they fully embraced it. They weren’t even interested in hiding under umbrellas! Rebecca has a truly adventure-loving heart and loved being surrounded by beautiful landscapes of Fairy Glen on Isle of Skye.

She was incredibly happy to be able to celebrate 20th years of marriage to Tim in such a breathtaking place. And I couldn’t have been happier to be a part of their beautiful vow renewal ceremony.
